Crypto exchange scams can hurt many people.There must be a system that prevents people from playing with their hopes and savings.
I think countries will not be that keen to allow licenses for such business because their own currency is linked. Even when allowed, the tax structures will be made unattractive or unviable for such businesses to flourish. This takes us back to the question of to regulate, or not to.
Crypto currencies are here to stay. Some of the countries have legally permitted trading in cryptocurrencies. The traditional conservative approach of regulators of many countries has now become liberal and these currencies are allowed to be traded. But still as it is in younger stage, there are possibilities of irrational behaviour of prices which may embarrass the investors for some time.
Crypto currencies are products of digitalization and algorithms. The underlying value is dubious although it is linked to currenices and metal prices. Regulators are adopting a wait and see attitude for a big disaster to occur to justify their reactive actions.
Crypto currencies are definitely here to stay because they serve a useful function in reducing transaction costs. Governments/banks/and others are threatened because their hold on money and its transfers are challenged. Like any new innovation, there is and will be speculation. So, I would be careful and use only my play money. However, there is nothing fair or unfair about crypto currency.
As long as the global economy remains healthy cryptocurrencies should be fine to use for their high liquidity. However, If a global financial crisis arises the crypto accounts will suffer enormously because they are nor backed by anything so nobody should be surprised. Thus ,there are other places to keep most of your funds and receive also a rate of return.
