The microstrain is the dominant factor for peak-width broadening in micro and nanocrystalline materials under severe deviatoric stress conditions in high-pressure and temperature conditions. By calculating microstrain, we can calculate the integrated width of diffraction peak (which is broader than that of original). So, FWHM value will be large and hence relatively small crystallite size. Therefore, the active surface area will be large which is useful for sensor fabrication.
