Fluorescence is a photoluminescence where both the excited and ground states involved have same spin multiplicity (deltaS=0). So all fluorescence is photoluminescence but all photoluminescence are not fluorescence. Organic molecule exhibits fluorescence (or phosphorescence). But heavy metal complexes or materials (perovskite) do not have pure spin (due to spin orbit coupling) so we call their emission photoluminescence or simply luminescence.
I need some knowledge of this as I have a paper communicated in RSC in which one of the reviewers put a query regarding the difference in the origins of Fluorescence and Photoluminescence. Upto my knowledge Fluorescence is fast type of Photoluminescence.
