We retrieved a box of amersham hyperfilm ECL films and I was wondering if this kind of film is able to detect 32P autoradiography (southern and northern-blotting) ? Does anyone already tested it ?
All photographic films will surely detect 32P. If hyperfilm is different from standard film (it might simply be reboxed and relabelled!!) my guess is that it might be "faster" than normal film. You just need to try a series of exposure times to optimise.
it will work and will also benefit from the use of standard intensifying screens and cold ( -80c) to enhance the signal more. Developer and fixer are standard the same as x ray film. As Geoff says the speed is slightly different to blue light ( as emitted by intensifying screens) but the background is lowere and the film cleare than XAR5 X ray film
just a thought. The effect of -80 and intensifying screen is to reduce the exposure time by a factor of 8 compared with room temperature and no screen if using 32P
