In 4-nitrophenol ( maximum absorption peak is located around 317 nm) reduction, we first use NaBH4 and the peak shifts to longer wavelength (400 nm) due to the formation of 4-nitrphenolate ion, then we use our catalyst and the peak of this 4-nitrphenolate ion (400 nm) gets reduced.
