I have performed the XRD analysis of a powder. Though all the peak positions are matching exactly with the standard, the corresponding intensities are different. I mean to say that the 100% intensity peak for the material should come at 7.25 A. In my case I did get a peak at 7.25 A but the intensity is 55.55% not 100%.
I tried searching for an explanation.
Possible reasons:
Indeed, if large-sized particles remain in your powder, they very likely influenced the orientation that is not characteristic of the powder diffractogram. (I guess Rohit Thirumdas mentioned about that)
Steven Van Petegem Thank you. these are actually pellets that were crushed to a fine powder using mortar and pestle. The sample was rotating. I meant to say the relative intensity with respect to a specific 2 theta value.
Rohit Thirumdas Thank you. Is there any way to circumvent this? May be because I have crushed the pellets (~2 mm size) using mortar and pestle. Even after performing repeats, I am unable to get the 100 % rel. intensity peak at the intended value.

In that case, can I still assume that the phase is still the same as what we were looking for, attributing the change in intensities to the sample preparation methods? or should I anticipate the presence of other phases or any other crucial interpretation that I am missing out.

I used to check the degree of crystallinity of cold plasma treated starches.
Rohit Thirumdas thank you. I don't have any idea regarding product purity and crystallinity. One observation is that when I simply did a phase match, all the peaks of my sample matched exactly with the standard except for the changes in the intensity. Not a single peak is left unindexed. In that case, is there still a probability of the existence of other unknown phases whose peaks overlap with the peaks of the current phase?
If it's possible, then I think I have to perform Rietveld refinement to determine the same. But here the other issue is I am unable to identify the other probable phases that might exist in my material. Any inputs would be very helpful.
