Gasoline and diesel fuel prices are high in many countries.
For instance, in Turkey, the 97-octane gasoline is 2.45 US dollar per liter. The Euro-Diesel fuel is 2.23 US dollar per liter. 1 liter LPG is 1.53 in US dollar. (4 liters equal ~1 gallon)
In Turkey, 42% of cars use LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas). The 32% of cars use only gasoline and the 26% of cars use only diesel fuel.
There is a growing interest for the use of LPG. In addition, it is environmentally friendly, it does not reduce the performance of a car and I believe LPG is safe for using in gasoline-powered car engines.
In Portugal, the most common fuel used in transports is Diesel, followed by gasoline. The consumption of fuels (gasoline and Diesel) for the transport sector has been decreasing in the last couple of years and LPG increasing due to the economic crisis.
Gasoline 95 costs on average 1.54 €, Diesel 1.38 € and LPG 0.72 €
In Germany the most common fuel used is still gasoline, but the market share of Diesel is still growing (with the growing market share of SUV's mostly powers by a diesel engine). Gasoline 95 cost about 0.55 €, Diesel 1.35 € and LPG 0.80 €

In Italy Diesel (average price 1.72 €/l) and Gasoline (average price 1.79 €/l) are still the most used ones, but LPG (average price 0.80 €/l) is becoming more and more common and methane as well
I have converted the most recent prices to €. So, now in Turkey, the prices are
1 liter 95 Octane gasoline = 1.75 €
1 liter Diesel = 1.59 €
1 liter LPG = 1.11 €
In Turkey, about 75% of the fuel price is the tax. The tax on fuel is high and it contributes about 10% of the national budget in Turkey. Additionally, the cost of fuel affects the prices of the majority of the other goods and services in the economy. The direct and indirect effects of possible future oil shocks would be negative and large.
Japan:
A-98 1.5 USD/liter (everybody use)
A-95 1.4 USD/liter (few use)
Diesel 1.3 USD/liter (few use beside trucks)

In Lithuania Diesel fueled cars are popular due to lower fuel cost and higher efficiency. As far as I know 10% of sold diesel is biofuel in our country.
In India, most common fuel used in vehicles is petrol, which costs 85 Rupees/litre
In Brazil, the most common fuels are gasoline (~ USD 1.4 / liter) and ethyl alcohol (~ USD 0.9 / liter).
In Czech Republic 30 % of cars have diesel engine, and almost 70 % have gasoline engine. However, total consumption of diesel is two times higher than consumption of gasoline, because diesel engines are used in trucks which drive much more and with much higher fuel consumption. LPG, CNG, electric and hybrid cars have negligible share. Actual price of gasoline 95 is 1.809 USD/liter and diesel is for 1.814 USD/liter.
Commonly used in the Czech Republic:
spark ignition - gasoline, 5-85% ethanol, LPG, minor use of CNG
compression ignition - diesel, 5-100% biodiesel, minor use of vegetable oils
In Canada most cars use gasoline at about 1 Can $ / liter that contains 8 % ethanol. Less common is diesel for some cars and trucks. Right now diesel is a bit cheaper than gasoline, but last year it was more expensive.
In recent years gasoline prices have changed from a low of 0.75 Can. $ /liter to a high of 1.35 $ per litre.
Most taxis are hybrid - use small amount of gasoline, most of the time run on battery (electric).
Most cars in India use Petrol with an increasing number of diesel cars also trying to catch up! But preference of a petrol car is there if the car is driven within the city and diesel in case the car /jeep has to make may inter-city rounds.
In the case of goods vehicle and others preference is towards diesel vehicles.
