Q1. I am working on studying the role of Ethylene in plant-pathogen interaction. Quantification of ethylene released from root samples is one of my sub-objectives. I would like to know possibility of employing head-space collection using a GC-FID setup and how efficient the technique is. Is there a protocol for the same?
Q2. Is there a better alternative to it, maybe using GC-MS ?

Ethylene acts as a plant hormone to promote the growth in fruits and vegetables. GC-MS might be considered better option for qualitative analysis using headspace microextraction. You can find the detailed procedure here.
