DTA is not as good as DSC for melting heat measurement, as DSC measures directly heat flux, while DTA only temperature difference, so the heat capacitance of the sample holder and the reference material should be takent into account, but it can be used for the same purpose. Mohammad.. First you need to calibrate your instrument by measuring the peak area of some standard materials over some temperature range. You need to plot the standard enthalpy values vs peak area data  and calculate the slope which will be in Joules/peak area unit. Conduct the DTA of  your sample at lest 2-3 times and get the peak area value and multiply it with the slope. You will get the an approximate enthalpy value of the change.  Even though the technique is still less quantitative than DSC. Regards....

A calibrated sample is necessary. As M.M. Barbooty has stressed out, there is a relation between the area under the Peak of the cal. sample and your measured sample. Thus you have a relation between the two enthapies. You find this in the already historic papers of Müller et.al.

Differential thermal analysis (DTA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) can be used as a method of material investigation. Thermal analysis is used to establish thermodynamic properties which are essential for understanding the behavior of material under different heating and cooling rates, under inert, reduction or oxidation atmosphere or under different gas pressures. Thermal analysis comprises a group of techniques (DTA and DSC) in which a physical property of a substance is measured to a controlled temperature program. The results given from the DTA or DSC curves depend on the preparation of the material, and on the instrument sensitivity. The sensitivity is in close relation to the apparatus design.

DSC and DTA both can be used for enthalpy analysis. DSC is better in term of heat flux while DTA for temperature difference value. For heterogeneous material, DTA sometime good in comparison to DSC. But overall DSC is better. The main advantages of the DSC technique over chromatography and spectroscopy are that analysis of all the impurities normally does not require standards except for the main compound, and permits simultaneous measurement of the melting range and variation of enthalpy.

Even adiabatic calorimeter (An adiabatic calorimeter is designed to study these run-away reactions) can be used to measure the enthalpy of fusion of a very pure sample. Enthalpy of fusion ΔfusH = (28.6624 ± 0.0076) J·g-1 just for example of pure Indium where the uncertainty correspond to be 95% confidence interval.

Determination of the melting temperature, heat of fusion, and purity analysis of different samples using DSC. DSC curves can be recorded in a DSC-50 cell using aluminum crucibles containing ~ 2 mg of samples, under dynamic nitrogen atmosphere (50 mL min‑1 ) and a heating rate of 2 °C min-1(generally this is acceptable rate) in the temperature range of 25 to 600 °C. The DSC cell must be calibrated first with indium (m.p. 156.6 °C; DHm = 28.54 J g-1). An empty pan sealed with a cover pan may be used as a reference sample. The results output is very high with standard reference a proportion of 99.83%.

For minimal mechanical effect, different types of measurement devices are constructed. Best results are expected to be achieved by the so called PC DSC apparatuses and hyper DSC.
