I would like to clone subregions of the full length Human Creb Binding Protein (CBP) for a potential project. I've found one source of the plasmid online (commercial) but they want an egregious amount of money for it. Would any lab be willing to send a copy of the CBP plasmid either as DNA or bacterial culture? I'd gladly provide a UPS/FedEx shipping number to cover the costs. I would of course acknowledge the source lab for the plasmid in any resultant publications.
Look for a published plasmid and email the corresponding author. They are obliged to distribute plasmids on request that have been published and most will without any problem. Alternatively, go through Addgene plasmid depository - they are a no profit organisation.
Hello Dr. O'Donnell. Thank you for the advice. I'm currently searching the literature. It seems that most people work with the full length mouse construct rather than human. So I thought I'd cast the net wide.
Also, how would you work with a corresponding author that is unwilling to respond and/or send a plasmid? I'm currently dealing with a no response situation and may escalate to calling the lab. I feel this is a reasonable next step, but I'm completely new to this requesting materials process. I've always thought that there is some obligation in academia to supply published research material on request.

Hi, I would just resend the email. It's possible they forgot or passed the request on to a lab member who has forgotten about it.
You can search for Robert Roeder -he will have every possible clone of CBP possible. Just be sure to know exactly which clone you want, with the exact name given in one of his publications. One of the most annoying things receiving requests is when someone doesn't specify this since they are likely to have a hundred different versions and won't want to spend extra time trying to guess which one you want.
