I am writing a qualitative research proposal. The purpose of my research is to explore nurses perceptions of practices (both personal and systemic) in emergency medicine that may be ageist in nature and to evaluate their potential to impede high-quality care transitions for geriatric patients. My primary and secondary research questions are: 1) Do nurses recognize hidden ageism as a primary barrier to effective care transitions when discharging geriatric patients from the emergency department? 2) What are nurses’ perceptions of the relationship between ageism and ineffective care transitions when discharging geriatric patients from the emergency department?

Initially, I had chosen a phenomenological design however I am now wondering if I should be using grounded theory. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
