I have some powder LixMn2O4, and I would like to find exact amount Li in the LixMn2O4, the amount of powder We have is little and around 1 mg. Could you advice me in this regard. I have don EDX and showed that Mn (63%) and O (37%) which is same as theoretical. and XRD for x< 1 almost are same according to some standard. and also read some paper, and didn't get any point.
In my view point... XRD is not good for this porpuse. Analitical chemistry can add you some answers. But first of all for that kind of mesarument U will need to make a tincture from the powder... And use a special reagent (untill all is reacted with Li) and from the loss of the reagent U can calculate the amount of the Li. (If U do tthis with special hardware, U will get much more accurate results.
you can go with the weight of the materials. You have the total weight, now by using the Avogadro number, you can easily look up for the g/mol (molecular weight) of each of these (Lix, Mn2 and O4) and find out the weight of Lix. from there, you can figure x (how many Li atoms can contribute to that weight).
May be EELS analysis can do it, if your sample can be delivered into TEM.
You can also try dissolve the powder in acids (HCl and/or HNO3..) and then quantitatively measure the amount of Li by using Atomic Absorption or Emission Spectroscopy (such as Flame AAS, Graphite furnace AAS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, etc.).
