Tarsorrhaphy is performed in a desperate effort in threatened corneal perforation, indolent corneal ulcers, exposure keratitis and in cases of loss of corneal sensitivity. Although options like keratoplasty, scleral autografts, conjunctival grafts, amniotic membrane grafts, bandage contact lenses and others do exist but still tarsorrhaphy is not obsolete.
After tardorraphy the patient still can blink with no movement of the eyelid but the orbicularis ms will contract and the globe will roll up and the tear will refreshed.
Blink after tarsorrhaphy still occur but it is not clinically effective. Ocular movements may help in refreshing the tear-film to some extent. Complete blink restores the tear-film integrity. Tarsorrhaphy decreases exposed ocular surface area, thereby decreasing evaporation and maintaining tear-film
