In electrospinning/spraying procedures the dielectric constant of the solvent is considered, but will there be dielectric constant for polymer? Do the polymer's dielectric constants influence the electrospinning and spraying apart from solvents dielectric constant?
A polymer can have a dielectric constant. Considering PEO, this polymer is an insulator but the electron pairs on oxygen could be used for interaction with large concentrations (0.5-3 mol/L) of alkali metal salt MX ( where M+ is e.g. Li+ or Na+ while X- is e.g.ClO4- the perchlorate). The solvent-free polymeric product will be ionic (i.e. concucts electricity) & it will be different from the starting material(PEO) in many aspects ,e.g. in Tg , crystallinity ..., which means that the processing of such modified polymer will be affected & differs from the processing of the original polymer "which is usually crystalline & end-capped".
