To what extent are the steady and progressive advances of medicine in the direction of prolonging human life by preventing the leading causes of death neutralized by a possible global atomic war?
most up to date scientific fact is that maximum lifespan of humans is 125 age (plus minus a few years). We don't know if humans will live forever or not at this stage. Search Aubrey de Grey. Shaun
Research on the significant extension of life is at a very early stage, with no clear success so far. Much of the research makes use of animal studies and drug development, with several encouraging signs. But, despite any success in explicit efforts to increase longevity, these efforts are not being fueled by public demand. In fact, the results of public opinion surveys in various countries have shown that people want to live modestly longer lives, but not much longer lives, from the eighties to the hundred, with ninety years of average life. Therefore, we need for a great public debate.
We'd better to extend healthy lifespan not absolute lifespan although extension of lifespan will inevitably extend maximum life span. We'd better watch AI to take over human race!
It is highly probable to decouple natural aging and (multiple) diseases by pro-active medical intervention like effective primary care, prevention and the like. But, to answer your question: no.
This question is a big one Sir. Sometimes when i visit my groundparent(Africans) picture album and compare with pictures of white men from past movies, trying to see and compare the difference so far, i wonder what will become the nature, appearance, reasoning pattern, mode of dressing and feeding among other things of the people that will live on this planet in the next 500/1000 years. SURELY, living creatures will exist on this planet as long as the planet exist even with atomic bomb but what becomes of them may be surprising. We may have a flying man, travelling without any of the present mode of transportation, making call without mobile phone, sending messages without typing, having children with just an eye blink or living for years without food. HUMAN BEINGS WILL EXIST FOREVER BUT WHAT TYPE OF HUMAN BEING WILL BE ON THIS PLANET IN YEARS TO COME?
Extending the life of the body is fine, but what of the brain? Will there be methods to keep brains healthy, reflecting the same individual, or ones that by keeping it healthy alter it, thereby altering the person? What then is life extension? Keeping the same body alive, but the mind that inhabits the body a fundamentally different mind?
