M1 macrophage pathways favor NOS conversion of arginine into citrulline and NO.   M2 pathways favor arginase conversion of arginine into ornithine and urea.  I am wondering if taking exogenous arginase will upregulate the M2 pathway, or will the exogenous arginase result in compensatory increase in M1 phenotype expression.    Thank you!!
