In an unprecedented and novel strategy for enhancing transition to OA publishing, the American Chemical Society (ACS) which publishes a wide range of reputable chemistry journals has introduced a new ACS Author Rewards scheme as a Direct-to-Author OA stimulus for each article published in its journals in 2014. Under this program, the corresponding author will receive two $750 credits for a total value of $1,500 per publication to use to offset article publishing charges and any ACS open access publishing services, redeemable over three years from 2015—2017. These credits can also be shared with other authors. Sounds unbelievable? Well, it is REAL and ACS should be applauded for introducing the program!!! Should other journal publishers be doing the same? Or do you know of other journals doing the same? Will such reward scheme change and encourage your interest in OA publishing?

I want to continue to publish results in the future. The journal must fit thematically. Open Access is attractive, since access is free for readers. Nevertheless, I would not submit more articles in Open Access Journals.
If the concept of a publishing company is successful, other publishers will offer it as well.
Yes, Along with the passion of research and gaining knowledge, If a person will get financial support, this idea will be fabulous in the research and encourage them. Same money they can use for their next publications

Although it is a good initiative in the field of publication, it sounds more like a retail store scheme to ensure that the author and his colleagues continue to publish with the journal in the near future as well.
What we really need is a way to cut these high costs of open access publishing. Not only should data be easily accessible to all, the procedure of publishing should also be equally affordable for the author.
Ameya, I think any scheme that reduces the cost of OA publishing and, thus, promote wider accessibility to more researchers is a positive step. Personally, I would not pay anything to get my work published. But, if I obtain the credits offered under the new ACS author reward scheme, I would be encouraged to use it to engage in OA publishing for the sake of increasing accessibility. Under these circumstances, I would be more inclined to publish in ACS journals rather than in those that are charging huge fees with no incentive. However, if other publishers follow suit, I would also consider OA publishing in their journals.

I would agree with you that this said journal is promoting authors to publish more in open access. But what we really need to do is reduction in cost of OA publishing as well.
Probably take up open peer review if required.
