Looking at the fact that the COVID 19 is a novel pathogen and scientists across the world are yet to fully understand the virus, the question of whether this novel virus would affect the current blood transfusion processes or protocols cannot be ignored. Please any ideas on how this virus could affect blood transfusion protocols?
"Immunity passport" for blood donors and people with evidence of COVID-19 exposure and recovery.
Testing for SARS-Cov-2 antibodies may become a routine in future blood transfusion screening tests for donors.
Such tests are already tested in studies to known the immune status of patients who had had exposure to COVID-19 (symptomatic, or asymptomatic) and opening up air travel and work for such persons.
However, WHO is still skeptical about the protective effects of antibodies after recovery from COVID-19 (caused by SARS-CoV-2) as was the case for SARS (caused by SARS-CoV-1).

Every institution is developing their own protocol. Nonetheless there has been some documented research to confirm the transmission of this novel virus through blood. however study Italy , France are opined that it cannot be transmitted through blood nonetheless it is a novel virus.
