My personal opinion is that AI in camels will never work on a large scale.
The reason is that even if methods will be found to store camel semen effectively: frozen in liquid nitrogen (and it may never happen!) , the high percentage of females (50-80%) that do not show visible oestrous signs will make the detection of the correct time to carry out AI a very inaccurate exercise and therefore AI will be very ineffective.
Of course a camel can be monitored daily with ultrasound/rectal examination and treatments can be administration to facilitate ovulation but this procedure is not of practical utility except in a zoo like setting or a research environment with a handful of animals.
