I want to express NK-2 (an antimalarial and antimicrobial peptide) recombinantly from orally administered yogurt bacteria. My question is, that since NK-2 is an antimicrobial peptide (that acts by generalized ion binding and pore formation), why will the expressed peptide not kill the very bacterial cells expressing it?

Thanks in advance,
