Currently, I am studying the working principle and mechanism of an OLED display. So my question is why we required the cathode and anode material in OLED? why we can't connect the organic layers directly to a power supply? Is this related to the driving voltage of OLED? How is drive voltage affected by anode and cathode?

How do they affect the overall device? What is the role of the work function of anode and cathode in HOMO-LUMO levels of organic materials? Also, I want to know how the work functions of different layers help electrons to travel from one layer to another? The energy difference between layers should increase gradually?
