Showed us how social isolation contributes to relapse and overdose rates of opioid addiction. She reveals how meaningful human connection could offer a potentially powerful source of recovery.
One can be addicted to something bad, but can be gotten used to something useful. Cell phones are very useful and people got used to it. However, there are people who speak, or play games, of send meaningless messages all day long without any reason and a sense of measure - that is an addiction.
A person in his life performs many social roles. It is easier to play a role in a particular pattern. The more often a person uses the same sample, the more he depends on it.
Addiction comes from continuous use. One gets addicted to something he uses or does continuously and one continues to do a particular thing only if they enjoy doing those things. That enjoyment brings satisfaction and with that feeling, one continues until their happiness become dependent on the particular thing they enjoy doing or using.
Addiction is the inability to stay away from something, perhaps under the guidance of the central nervous system. Of course we are addicted to some things through ourselves, we train ourselves not to leave these things because they make us feel some fun and relaxation
It is all about your way of thinking! Obsession may lead to addiction. If you get used to something, you get too much attached, or too much dependent, yes you may reach a point of addiction! It is all in your head!
The psychological function of addictions is to compensate for the feeling of unsecurity and uncertainty; we have to learn that not knowing and unconformability are foundational parts of our life; the best human response to this natural condition is enjoyment and creativity, i.e. most addicitons are bad habits or routines.
French philosopher Pierre Gassendi (b. 1592, d. 1655) considered the self-perception of life as a sum of pleasures giving happiness and sufferings providing a different level of pain. He taught that sometimes one is to reject some pleasures in order to reach even greater pleasure later, and eliminate an associated with a particular pleasure following on pain.
This is exactly what's happening when people choose to smoke, take drugs, overeat, overwork, under sleep, etc. instead of refusing those deceptive pleasures in order to achieve much better physical and psychological health providing long lasting happiness.
Democritus:
It is a sign of unreasonableness; don’t want to make concessions to life.
