Coating or encapsulation of nano-particles is performed due to the :

1.Their extremely small size,

2.High surface energy of the nano-particles

3.High surface area of the nano-particles

The general tendency is to reduce surface energy. Therefore, small particles tend to agglomerate more easily. To prevent particle agglomeration, coating is applied.
