Cyclic voltammetric technique is used for electroploymerization of aniline in 0.5M aniline + 0.5M H2SO4 aqueous solution. Stainless steel (1cm2), platinum sheet and Ag/AgCl are used as working electrode, counter electrode and reference electrode respectively. potential window is -0.2V to 1.2V. CV is attached here.
Why two oxidation peaks corresponding to LE/EM and EM/PE during anodic scan are not well distinguishable from each other?
Normal it happens at higher scan rates. Two oxidation and reduction peaks.
slow down scan rate, two oxidation peaks will be distinguished from each other.
Seems to me that you are getting a really resistive response. That usually happens when the aniline solution is oxidized (old solution and direct exposure to sunlight for long periods could do that) I would suggest to prepare a new aniline solution (from fresh distilled monomer) also, try to increase your supporting electrolyte concentration at least two orders of magnitude above the electroactive specie (aniline). If that doesn’t work you could also try to use another working electrode, I know that steel show faradaic process at positive potential values and its conductivity its not the best.
