What is the current innovations in hyperspectral satellite technologies? are there new launched satellites other than the known ones (Hyperion, Chris-Proba)? Are they for civil use? where we can find them? are they free of charge?
Hyperspectral sensors have more than 100 bands in each dataset (e.g. Hyperion - 224 bands). Inorder to store this huge amount of data, lot of space is required, whereas multispectral sensors have less bands compared to Hyperspectral. sensors. So more data can be stored onboard. Also, the bands in multispectral sensors are fixed after calibration which serve special purposes. But in case of hyperspectral sensors we have spectral ranges from Visible to MIR with good spectral resolution. In order to launch a Hyperspectral sensor, lot of studies are carried out in order to assess the need for Hyperspectral data in the region. I hope this would answer
