The ONLY reason behind such change of attitude is that- the person is not qualified for the post.
Here, qualification means knowledge and efficiency, not degree.

Please correct me if I am wrong. There is no word as proudy, it must be proud! By the way, students must be proud to be a scientist or lecturer. What is wrong in it?
Any post or achievement, of course , is a matter of proud moment, but it should not cross the limit...because success is a journey, not a destination...
Nobody should express the weight of his chair (post) to any other person to show his/ her importance.
That sense is told in the question, I think.
Proud? I don't think so. The sudden change in financial status and attitude is what people termed pride especially from existing Junior staff who now see a student suddenly changed to a boss. Change in such a manner is inevitable which I will say is normal.
I am grateful to all experts who are commenting. I personally met many of peoples who feel proud/insult for guiding young researchers. Sharing of knowledge and personal experience will guide young researchers to save time of a generation. I believe if you are experienced person then you should treat your juniors respectfully and cooperate with them honestly with supportive attitude. Sometimes someone is innocent at that time and facing some domestic problems as well, at that point your helping behavior may save her future growth. As a famous quote " A stitch in time saves nine"
