We generally use impact factor as a measure of the quality of the research work. But I think, we should measure the significance of the research work on the basis of its findings and impact on society. This is because, a few years ago, I published my research in a journal which was not even ISI indexed. But now it has a high impact factor. So apparently my paper which was not important has gained importance now just because of the journal If. On the other hand, I published some papers in a journal which had an impact factor, but now even not indexed as an ISI journal. So my work is the same. Rise and fall in journal impact factor are determining the worth of my scholastic activities. Is it right? Should we attribute importance to a factor which has nothing to do with the quality of work rather depends on circulation and citation statistics?
