I saw in some publications .they will grow a seed layer on the top of si/sio2 .example si /sio2 / zno seed layer /sno2 nano wires for No2 application .
As per my knowledge zno is good for No2 detection and sno2 is good for CO detection .if I grow like example .
1)what is the major role of seed layer ?
2)if I grow nano wires on seed layer does the gas sensor will work based on nano wires property or seed layer property ?
Often seed layers are added to improve the growth of the nanowire. SiO2 is amorphous and does not lend itself to the growth of crystalline oxide structures. By adding a thin layer of a crystalline material, the density of nanowire nucleation can often be improved.
As SiO2 does not adhere very well to a multitude of materials, a seed layer may serve as some "glue layer" to improve the adherence of the material of choice for the sensitive layer to the SiO2. If covered completely, the seed layer will not contribute to the sensing properties any more.
