Interesting question asked from engineering at site when they want to remove their formworks ... and always I reject upon logical reason.. whats your opinion ... ?
For long span concrete structures, when they have attained sufficient strength to support their self-weight, creep deflection may occur in these structures if propping is not provided after the removal of formwork. Therefore, re-propping is carried out after removing formwork and these props should not be allowed to stand too long because creep loads may overstress them.
Furtherly to Debasish's comment: at that time only the self weight can be supported, but since the construction will continue, further loading ("live loads") might be acting also, for what the structure is not ready to carry yet.
