I have seen alot of patient
who fall down complaining of gluteal pain ,who found to have acute vertebral fractures on MRI .they don't have pain around fracture site , but they have it in gluteal area . Even with gluteal blocks .pain not improved but improved on kyphoplsty . Is their explanation for that .?
I cannot agree with your observation talking from my experience. Directly after trauma patient may feel pain in the site of direct impact, but often, if not always, if spine fracture occurs, the pain is reported in the fracture site.
I thought that also .in my practice I noticed slot complaining from gluteal area pain and low back pain . I tried to find explanation .but I failed
Gluteal area (muscles) is a needed compensation area. When overused there might be pain. Kyphoplasty betters stability of vertebral spine and, hopefully, pain.
If not, further examination is needed, including x-ray, MRI/CT, neurological physical examination (nerve deficiency?, paresis? other findings?). Reg., W.
After a vertebral fracture of osteoporosis there are two main reasons for gluteal pain: nerve entrapment peripherally to the fracture and agitation of the iliopsoas muscle with eradication. However, MRI and HMG workup are in order to follow through conservative or surgical treatment.
