Is there any indication for kyphoplaty in multiple myeloma who have vertebral involvement. And if there is any indication how many verebrae you can do per sstion?
Alot of patients with multiple myeloma complain of back pain . I have seen some patients underwent kyphoplaty for the pain . I failed to find literature suppori that . Some they have fracture some they don't . I have seen patient underwent 15 vertebra.
I believe you mean kyphoplasty...and YES...with pain due to vertibral fracture or collapse especially in diseases like myeloma this procedure is a great adjuvant for therapy overall, relieving pain almost instantly.
There is a bundle of literature for kyphoplasty in general for vertebral collapse, either from osteoporosis or metastatic disease. There are two basic methods; one where the vertebra is actually expanded before the cement is infused and the more basic where only the cement is used. Both offer rapid alleviation of pain and excellent results in the hands of an experienced physician.
