Why is there decrease in peak intensity in XRD of polymer coated nanoparticles compared to bare ones?

I prepared dextran coated magnesium ferrite nanoparticles. This is surface dangling bonds of the particle interaction with O-H bonds of dextran, in case of dextran coated particles, which may induce a non-uniformed strain. Therefore, this results in decreased intensity and broadening of the peak after coating. Is this true?
