I did a zeta potential analysis on zeolite and silver-exchanged zeolite powder at pH 7. Why is the zeta potential of silver-exchanged zeolite is more negative than the zeolite? I can't find the explanation for this.

Sorry for the lack of information..silver--exchanged means that I did ion exchange of silver ions with the sodium ions in the zeolite...no silver particles is deposited on the zeolite surface.
Fact: The Ag+-ion has a much weaker electrical field than Na+, due to the screening the d-electrons provide for the nucleus. And now my assumption: Less of the -O-bridges' negative partial charges would be oriented towards the cations, leaving them free to interact with the solution.
What kind of zeolite are u using? What kind of silver salt have you used for ion exchange? It may come from the counterion of your silver salt used. You should give more specific details about your experiment, then people can help you.
I am using zeolite NaY and silver nitrate was used for the ion exchange process.
