I had mix silicon and some alcohol liquid (IPA) and make its solution. The solution is then drop on both glass and silicon substrate and then heated to leave the silicon particles on sample. But unfortunately when examine its conductivity nature its film was found crack and where separated with layers. Can any one provide suggestion to rectify this problem.

I would like to know 1) the Si particle size; 2) is this solution homogeneous after mixing?
As because if the particle sizes are big enough, then drop- cast solution gets cracked with drying. Same reason is applied for the homogeneity of the solution.
I think IPA is not a good choice for making films with particles and same thing is applicable for drop casting also. You have to find the proper solvent to get a well dispersion and try to coat with spin coating or dip coating instead of drop casting. Moreover, the heating is also an important part, for that you need to choose the proper temperature, heating rate etc.

The size of silicon is in micrometer and the solution with be homogenous after mixing its true. Also the heating is done around 70 degree for 30 min depend upon the drop size. As IPA will easily evaporate while heating and could nanoparticle so I prefer this solvent. I had worked with ethanol as well but the film still looks cracked. I am not sure is it concentration of solute and solvent are not accepting their nature of stability.

Many thanks for reply. I have tried heating up slowly as well (around 40 degree) for 5 minutes and but there are two options either you need to heat at higher temperature at shorter time to make ethanol gets evaporated or low temperature for longer time period. So even in both cases the result appear almost like previous one. But when tried with silicon (99.9% purity), the result some how better.
