Why is pentacene not in the form of a single crystal at macroscopic length scale level?

Can anybody explain?

It can be grown, very carefully, to be pretty big. One area I have worked in is making soluble pentacenes, both to influence their stacking in the solid state, and to make them easy to grow from solution.
