I am applying a zero thickness cohesive between two plates. The cohesive uses section solid with #19. I apply composite MAT 58 (laminated composite) to the solid plate. I get the error of "The LS-DYNA time step size should not exceed 2.535E-08. to avoid contact instabilities. If the step size is bigger then scale the penalty of the offending surface." When I change my MAT to MAT 22 (COMPOSITE DAMAGE) I don't get that error, I get a very large deformation. How do I fix this error? Is there some way to control the time step? or is there something deeper that I am missing? I have tried what Ls-Dyna has suggested about this error and nothing has worked.
