Even after about 40 yrs of its inception the complication rate of laparoscopic chole. Is still double than open cholecystectomy. Then how is it gold standard surgery???
i thnk this coplications is drecreasing with the development of new technology in tools of laparoscopy and understanding lap. anatomy and even if double of open cholecystectomy this rate of coplication is still very low on hands of experts and now if you follow the culture of safty you will have near zero coplications.also if coplications occur after lap. chole. the reexploration can be done laparoscopicaly and avoiding wound complication and also can be done open without the more adhesions that are suspected if reexploration done after open. chole.
Very well said sir.... I do feel it is the trend which was forced into practise for commercial purposes and surgeons got fascinated by the gadgets like 007. Most of the surgeons find it interesting to have an edge over others by doing laparoscopic surgery.
