I disagree. This is a very commonly used procedure and everything can come basically all in commercial kit form. You just need a real-time PCR thermal cycler in addition.

Most primers are commercially available. There is software available to help you choose your reference gene(s) (e.g., Normfinder, RefFinder). A large fraction of your calculations can often be done by your real-time PCR thermal cycler software. I never implied that an inexperienced person can do this all by him- or her-self with no training. I just implied that qRT-PCR is not that hard to do any more and is commonly done. At least 3 labs on my floor in my building do the technique routinely.
