Dear all,

I am researching about adolescents and alcohol use with self-report method and I have a few questions about how to measure frequency of alcohol (and other substances) consumption.

How much does the temporal range of consumption - operationalized by measure- influence the study (e.g. "How often did you drink in the last month?")?

In your opinion what are the benefits and the disadvantages of using a measure of alcohol consumption referred to the last month?

Could you kindly suggest me literature about why is it important using measures refered to monthly consumption of alcohol of other substances?

Briefly, I am curious about:

Why not investigate last week?

Why not last year?

Why survey mostly use monthly frequency?

Thank you very much
