Dental professionals include dentist, laboratory, healthcare workers; prosthodontics may be at risk for exposure to numerous workplace hazards. These hazards include, but are not limited to, the spectrum of blood borne pathogens, pharmaceuticals and other chemical agents, human factors, ergonomic hazards, noise, vibration, and workplace violence.

OSHA have published their standards and prevention policies .i have related presentation in congress, research projects’ and teaching course of study with the title of ” occupational health and infection control” for dental care professionals and prosthodontics students at Isfahan university of medical sciences.

Thank you Yousef for the response. Yes, I am aware of the hazards inherent in dental practice as outlined by you. To make my question clearer, if a worker is suspected of suffering from hearing loss he will undergo treatment under occupational health physician. And in order to help him in proper diagnosis he will be sent for audiomentry tests. All expenses will be paid by the company where he works because hearing conservation programme is a significant part of occupational health services in any organization with a functional occupational health department. But I have observed that this not the same when a worker suffers from serious toothache. For an example, the mutilnational company where I worked before my voluntary retirement did not include dental care as part of its occupational health services. I am always wondering while this should be so since toothache does have impact on the general well being of the worker and his job. Look at definition of occupational health again…….. “Occupational health is the effect of work on health and vice versa.”
