Electrolyte medium also depends on the suitability of the current collector. When Ni foam is used, the electrolyte is usually basic, such as KOH, as Ni foam reacts in acidic electrolyte.

Polypyrrole has also been used in acidic (H2SO4) and neutral (Na2SO4) electrolytes. Concentration can be varied based off optimisation and amount of charge required - such that 1 M and 3 M concentrations have also been commonly reported.
