I have the impression that twins are statistically less frequent in Royal Families. We should certainly have heard about them, since there would have been quarrels about the succession and rivalry for power. I don't think it is explicable by the killing of one at birth.
Just a wild guess: could it have anything to do with inbreeding (assuming that your impression is right)? For a comparison, what are sibling prevalences in societies with relatively high coefficients of inbreeding, such as small isolated villages?
Incidence is still relatively low and the fact that in inheritance they would have to be both first born boys I think it is very rare. Also twin births have increased in recent times (wiki has a good section on it also including the incidences). Probably this low chance of two sons twinning and being the first born male is quite low and hence we did not hear about it.
