The accuracy of soil information depends on the accuracy of soil sampling. Besides, digital soil mapping for future management of soils also depends on the representation of sampling points. The prediction of soil classes or properties from point data using a statistical algorithm helps to produce digital soil maps. My intention is to produce digital soil maps that shows soil mapping units (SMUs) or management units. Each SMU has different management requirement (related to site-specific nutrient management). Among many soil sampling designs, grid sampling is preferred for digital soil mapping by many soil scientists. I want to learn why grid sampling is suitable for digital soil mapping? What about zone sampling?
