I had no chance to read it, my comment was brief, as long as the plastic production industry continued to operate, during that time it also struggled with plastic waste, as long as the automotive industry continued to operate, during the traffic jam ...
still producing plastic with high social cost consequences, or finding alternative replacements for plastic, although it is difficult, maybe a dozen years in the future can be found alternatives to replacing plastics, but if as long as humans consider "cheapest" plastic packaging, plastic is certainly difficult to overcome.
The problem of environmental pollution with plastic waste is one of the key global problems. This problem should be solved in all countries, and above all those that "generate" the most. The European Union has already undertaken specific measures in this direction, eg by introducing legal regulations under which plastic will be withdrawn from packaging by 2021 and replaced with biodegradable materials such as vegetable origin. However, these regulations concern only European Union countries.
Obviously, human life and happiness are multiaspectual and the main goal of green economies is to guarantee both a healthful environment and sustainable economic growth. The short sighted policies of the incumbent president in America rests on business criteria whereby everything is measured by financial gains. As such, the president's stance on climate change and environmental pollution is based on a strong financial logic simply because any compliance with global measures concerning the preservation of nature for the future generations requires a tremendous amount of money in order to replace the old systems by more modern infrastructual constructs needed for launching weather friendly projects.
The United States is still influenced by a LIBERTARIAN outlook in politics.
That is, many of its citizens feel that it should be up to the individual to decide if he wants to use plastic or avoid it... or to drive a big gas guzzling car or a small electric one.
Each citizen can participate in any environmental movement as much as he pleases.
But to have government decide for all - and IMPOSE - rules and laws stating what everyone has to do for everyone else's own good, is still a step too far for liberty loving Americans.
There is an old saying in America: The desire to save the world is a false front for the desire to rule it.
And invariably, everyone wants to gain control of the power of the State to impose their version of THE GOOD CAUSE on everybody else.
It's a lot easier to get (by persuasion or purchase) a handful of politicians to pass a law than to convince an entire nation one-by-one that any idea is sound.
