What is the reason for this problem? And how to adjust the finite element model?

Dynamic tasks are the most difficult tasks in mechanics. The answer to your question raises many problems, for example, what algorithm you use, what elements model the contact zone, how do you take into account the mass of the barge and pier, under what boundary conditions the problem is solved. Without knowing this, it is difficult to advise something.
Nevertheless, I would advise:
1. Use ANSYS, not LS-Dyna. ANSYS is more accurate and better algorithmic. LS-Dyna is a beautiful visualization, nothing more.
2. Apply the stiffness of the contact elements not by default, but vary according to the task conditions.
3. Before calculating, compare the calculated weight of the barge with the actual one.

Based on your suggestion, I adjusted several parameters of contact algorithmic between the barge and pier, like SOFT, the scale factor (SFS/SFM) for the slave and master penalty stiffness, and I got a better simulation results.
Besides, after a series of try-and-error method, I found that the impact angle may be the main reason for the sudden increase of impact force in finite element simulation. Hope that my answer will help you when you encounter the same problem. Alexey Beskopylny
