I am conducting an LCA for cement industry in Egypt, and trying to use Sima Pro. I'm suing CML 2001 method on the cement process "Cement ETH U" under the "processes" > "Material" > "Construction" > "Binders". I've modified "inputs" and "emissions" based on the available data I was able to collect. When I hit the tree button to calculate results, "Cement ETH U", which is my end product, appears to have an impact on environmental categories. I think only inputs and emissions to air should have an impact with respect to the categories but not the end product because this will duplicate results. Am I right?
You may have the summation (capital Sigma) selected. This shows the cumulative effect of the upstream network (I can't get a tree, as there are loops in the cement process) - and may look like a contribution from that final process. If you open the process and don't see any exchanges with the environment, then that process is not contributing to the total. There are none in the cement process that I looked at in the ecoinvent database (though I don't have the one you specified). If you added emissions in your modification, then it will contribute, but these will not be a double counting.
First of all, try using other evaluation methods CML is quiet sensitive on certain imapct categories.
If your end product is produccing an impact is because you somehow created a "cycle" so your final product is an input somewhere on your chain.
I woudl recomend you to try to get the datasets for cement on EcoInvent 3.1 which were updated recently.
