Our laboratory has faced the following problem: when analysing the assay of paraffin oil in a cosmetic product by means of HPLC-ELSD, artifactually low results were obtained (5-point 2nd order calibration used). While the following tendency was observed - the response of paraffin oil peak gradually decreased during the sequence.
Chromatographic conditions:
Eluent: ethylacetate:acetonitrile (50:50)
Nebulizer: 50 oC
Drift tube: 50 oC
Gas: 30 psi
Flow: 1 mL/min
Where could be the problem?

Inject the sample with the same concentration and see whether the signal still decreases. Then it could be due to so many factors.

Nothing changes. Peak area still gradually decreases.What factors can affect the performance of ELSD in this case?
Hi Olesya,
maybe the temperature of the nebulizer is too low (condensation effects) or the exhaust is clogged.
