in modification of structure of curcumin, why blocking of OH of curcumin reduce its absorbance with spechtrophotometer ?
There are two types of OH group in Curcumin. (1) Phenolic OH, and (2) Enol OH.
Blocking the phenolic OH may not have significant influence of the absorbance.
The Enolic OH involves in the Keto - Enol tautomerism and hence blocking the Enolic OH has very significant effect on the absorbance as this freezes the equilibrium to the enolic form which has less absorbance than the diketo form.
