I'd like to inoculate barley with Xanthomonas translucens so I placed barley plants in pots in a greenhouse. The plants were treated against thrips but leaves are still turning yellow with brown dots. Do you have an idea of what could cause this? Maybe a problem with the growing media? I used classic compost. Thank you!

Such problem can be caused by a number of factors - if there is no pest or pathogen, it can be toxic compounds in air, water combined with specific plant genotype. To find our the reason, you should test several varieties, different composts, different pesticides and fertilizers. Many years ago, volatile chemicals from new type of plastic for glasshouse insulation caused plant damage in HRI-Wellesbourne.
It could be caused by iron deficiency or metal toxicity, i suggest that measure the metal concentration in growing media,compost and in barley

I think that the symptoms are actually physiological leaf spots. And I think it was due to too big variations of light in the greenhouse and pots too small too. Thank you for your answers !
