Recent trends tend to redirect user experience (ux) as subject that incorporated the subjects of graphic design, psychology, marketing as well as computer science.
When we design a user interface there is supposed to be usability testing as well as user interface that gives feelings to user such as feelings of interactivity, and positive and negative emotion to the application that we build.
What is trend uf ux as part of information system curriculum?
I think it is a good direction. Systems become faster. The only problem is that different peopole in different countries might have different habits that the mean value. In this case the system may become slower!
This is where the verification and validation processes take place. Systems are implemented to facilitate the processes and make it easy on the users.....

This is a good question? At the beginning of my working life in systems analysis, it was the most important things are to respect the user. We must have to satisfy the user’s needs before the director and system administrators. Because, we know that first reason of our systems failure is the users. For this, we involve them in the process of designing user interface and take their advices for everything in care. In addition to this, we find many solutions of our system problems in their great experiences. Some of them are highly motivated and have positive effects. For this, I think it is very necessary rooming user experience in information systems.
You need to begin by giving a good definition of what an information system is.
If you are thinking of some kind of course then human computer interaction (HCI) would be a vital part of understanding of an information system. 90% of information system projects get cancelled. Very few of these few are cancelled because they're not technologically capable of delivering what was specified. The failure of 87% of Information Systems tends to attributed to user rejection (or lack of take up), that's after you exlcude the ones which don't implement what was actually required. Most of the major software disasters can be attributed to users/customers not being able to operate the system.
HP attributed 40% of downtime on super reliability services, down to operator errors. Documentation and training is another area which is high cost to most projects and these are frequently used to overcome limitations of the user interface. The savings of getting the human computer interaction right is potentially huge.
Failure to plan a good human computer interface is a plan for the human computer interface to fail.
To clarify UX is A term typically reserved to cover both the direct digital experience and associated information (for example a paper user guide is not part of the user interface but is part of the user experiance).
In the health information systems fields there are, in our programs, a number of opportunities to learn UX / UI skills. People like Andre Kushniruk are very active in applying Usability testing / inspection methods to health information systems. Wearing a few hats (a researcher, teacher and a clinical user), I think one of the grand challenges in health information systems is the user experience. Not getting it "right", as this is a complex problem with no single right answer, but getting it better.
So I am interested not just in teaching about evaluation / critiquing UX of information systems but in how to perform generative research to get to better designs as the systems are conceived and as they evolve.
There is more than one definition of what is meant with an *Information System*. There are two competing and very different definitions and the consequences of these two definitions are quite stark. Within Computer Science dominated areas IS tends to be defined as an IT based system which may or may not be looked upon as having *users*. Within the discipline of Information System there is a very different definition of IS which means that IS is defined as a *system of information*. This may or may not have anything to do with computers. First of all *information* can be defined as something which is *within the human mind* - in other words - the result of human sense making. And from this perspective - there is no information outside a human - there is only data. So all computer based systems are *data processing systems* and unless there is a human being who makes sense of such data there is no information system. IN other words information system is in this perspective a system of human who make sense of data. This understanding has significant impact on what is then being engaged with as part of Systems Analysis, System Inquiry, Information System Development etc. The work *user* makes in this case no sense at all. In fact I have never met a human being who identifies themselves as a *user*. The only exceptions I can come to think of is a drug addict.
So from this perspective there becomes a shift from *usability* to *usefulness*. The reason being is that *usability* is equivalent to *expected usefulness* and not *actual usefulness*. These expectations are often created by designers, producers, providers and management. Not those individual stakeholders who are actually *using* any technology in their everyday life work situations. For that we have *socio-technical approaches* and *client-led design* etc. Many of these related to soft systems methodology.
User experience is quite imortant to help us build useful information systems. Based on UX, you can learn new lessons that help you improve certain features in the system. In software and information systems develoment, user experience remains a challenging factor that researchers have always tried to model, analyze and evaluate in order to improve the value of these systems to their end customers. So I guess this is a good subject to look at in your research and still has lots of open questions.
As Peter says, we have more than one definition of what is meant with an “Information System”. It is the same for “user experience” It can be defined as what the users experience interacting with the IS, or, as I prefer, as the long-standing experience their gain in managing their work domain. In this case, the system has to be a good tool in supporting a complex cognitive experience. With that in mind, usually I design a new system working at several levels. At the first, I model the user’s activity: actions, objectives, variations, and so forth. The second: what kind of information needs to be implemented for each step of the plan. The last level: the better graphic interface to support an easy and intuitive interaction with the system. This is my way to design the system starting from the user, rather than from the system.
